There's no need to go out and drop a fortune to accessorize the walls in your home. With a little creativity, you can repurpose a variety of things in your house and have wonderfully unique wall art without spending a dime.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Picture frames
  • Wall hooks
  • Paint
  • Unused household items
  1. Step 1

Make a large faux frame on your wall by taping off a rectangular section and painting the space within. Hang pictures of significance, a diploma or other memorable pieces within your frame. This is a great way to bring a sense of unity to a collection of multiple items.

  2. Step 2

Paint the shiny sides of old CDs, then etch a design into the paint to expose the iridescence underneath. Affix the CDs directly to the wall in a creative pattern or put strings through them and hang them in an asymmetrical fashion on the wall.

  3. Step 3

Hang those mismatched china plates and platters you never use on the wall. Attach a hook to the back of the plate and hang it on a wall hook using a colorful piece of ribbon tied in a bow.

  4. Step 4

Bring the beauty of nature right to your wall by lightly painting the backs of leaves, fern fronds and flowers and then pressing the images onto the wall. Fill a small wall with your designs or create a unique border around the room.

  5. Step 5

Create a collage of old picture frames on the wall by painting them all black and hanging them in a rectangular or square pattern. Fill them with pictures you have stored away, old postcards or antique black-and-white photos.

  6. Step 6

Gather up your old half-used cans of paint and stencil in a pattern around windows and doorways or other focal points on the wall.

  7. Step 7

Use things from nature to adorn your walls, such as a piece of driftwood, a branch from your yard, dried flowers or shells.

  8. Step 8

Display memorable pieces of clothing, such as a kimono from your trip to the Orient, your daughter's first dress or your wedding gloves.

  9. Step 9

Cover old wood hangers with sheer strips of fabric or paint them in bright colors. Hang a dried bouquet of flowers, a vintage necktie or an old piece of costume jewelry from the hanger and then hang the piece from a wall hook.

  10. Step 10

Hang old musical instruments from the wall along with some pieces of sheet music.

  • Get creative! Almost anything around your house can become wall art if you put a little thought into it.
