Wallpaper is a great way to introduce a whole new look into a room. Modern wallpaper is easy to hang and clean. It also comes in unlimited colors, styles and textures to suit every room in your home. You do want to make sure you buy enough wallpaper for your entire job, so follow the correct procedures to measure the area you want to cover.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Draw a diagram of the area you want to wallpaper.

  2. Step 2

Measure the length of the walls. Add the length of the walls together to calculate the perimeter of the area. As you measure, note your measurements on your diagram.

  3. Step 3

Measure the height of the walls.

  4. Step 4

Multiply the height of the walls by the perimeter to calculate the square footage.

  5. Step 5

Divide the square footage of your area by 25 to estimate the number of rolls of wallpaper you will need. A single roll of wallpaper covers about 25 square feet.

Tips & Warnings
  • In general, you can deduct one roll of wallpaper for each door and half a roll of wallpaper for each large window.
  • You need to check the pattern repeat, which tells the distance between identical matches of the pattern. You can add the amount of the pattern repeat to the ceiling height to ensure you account for it.
  • You can always take your measurements to a wallpaper store and have them calculate how many rolls of wallpaper you need.
