Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Marker or pen
  • Sticky notes or labels
  • Cleaning supplies

Step1
Remove all items from your pantry, placing the contents in a close and easily-viewable location, such as the kitchen counter or tabletop.
Step2
Clean the pantry's shelves and floor, making sure to dry them after wiping down.
Step3
Discard any items that were not stored properly, have grown old or reached their expiration dates.
Step4
Group remaining items into two categories of frequent and non-frequent use.
Step5
Determine a storage plan for pantry contents, keeping frequent-use items at eye level. Create categories for like items such as baking supplies, canned goods, pastas and boxed items.
Step6
Map-out your arrangement by placing labels or sticky notes to shelves for each category. Try to place frequent-use items at eye level.
Step7
Refill the pantry, placing items in the proper categories.

Tips & Warnings

  • While organizing pantry items, take note of items which need replacement and create a grocery list.
  • Place heavier items such as liters of soda, bags of flour and bags of potatoes on the bottom of the pantry.
  • To access pantry contents sitting deep within the space, use simple and inexpensive plastic dishpans to hold items. Label each one with its contents and slide in and out with ease.
  • Store all cleaning supplies away from food.
