How to Plan a Hiking Trip to Sundance, Utah

When most people think of Sundance Resort in Utah, they think of skiing and snowboarding. During the spring, summer and fall, however, the slopes at Sundance make for great hiking excursions. Hiking at the resort is a fresh way to explore and enjoy this beautiful area, with trails for everyone from novice to expert. Strap on your hiking boots and head out for a day of adventure at Sundance.

Things You'll Need:

  • Water
  • Hiking boots
  1. Step 1

    Take a hike to Stewart's Falls. This is a great 2-hour guided hike for beginners and intermediate-level hikers.

  2. Step 2

    Try the Ridge Trail for a bit longer hike. The Ridge Trail hike is four hours and is suitable for beginner to intermediate hikers. The hike includes transportation to the trail.

  3. Step 3

    Take the Great Western Trail if you are an intermediate hiker. Not a good trail for beginners, this 3-hour guided tour includes transportation to the trail head and back.

  4. Step 4

    Take a scenic lift ride to the top of Ray's Summit. After reaching the top, you can venture on your own to designated hiking trails.

  5. Step 5

    Remember to wear sturdy hiking boots no matter which trail you take. A good pair of shoes is a must to protect your feet and ankles. Bring along a sweatshirt or light jacket, as the weather on the mountain can be cool.

  6. Step 6

    End your hike with a great meal at one of Sundance Resort's tempting restaurants, with something for every budget and appetite.

  • Check the weather at the Sundance Web site before heading out. Summer weather in the desert is unpredictable.
  • It is always a good idea to hike with a buddy.
  • Do not forget to drink plenty of water, or you will quickly become dehydrated.
