Just like anything else in your home, light fixtures become dirty. Dust rises and so does grease from the stove. Although light fixtures do not need to be cleaned weekly, it is wise to schedule time to complete this chore. Follow these steps to make your light fixture sparkle and bring a new light to the entire room.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Ladder
  • Soapy water
  • Dry rag
  • Necessary tools to remove the fixture

Step1
Turn off the light.
Step2
Turn off the circuit breaker.
Step3
Remove the light bulb and fixture if possible.
Step4
Wash glass fixtures in soap and water or specialized cleaner. If the fixture cannot be removed from the ceiling or wall, use a well-wrung-out cloth damp with soap and water or specified cleaner.
Step5
Dry the fixtures.
Step6
Wipe the bulbs with a rag.
Step7
Re-install the fixtures and their bulbs.
Step8
Turn on the circuit breaker and the light switch.

Tips & Warnings

  • Leaving on the light or breaker could result in electrocution.
