How to Clean Light Fixtures

Just like anything else in your home, light fixtures become dirty. Dust rises and so does grease from the stove. Although light fixtures do not need to be cleaned weekly, it is wise to schedule time to complete this chore. Follow these steps to make your light fixture sparkle and bring a new light to the entire room.

Things You’ll Need:

• Ladder
• Soapy water
• Dry rag
• Necessary tools to remove the fixture

1. Turn off the light.
2. Turn off the circuit breaker.
3. Remove the light bulb and fixture if possible.
4. Wash glass fixtures in soap and water or specialized cleaner. If the fixture cannot be removed from the ceiling or wall, use a well-wrung-out cloth damp with soap and water or specified cleaner.
5. Dry the fixtures.
6. Wipe the bulbs with a rag.
7. Re-install the fixtures and their bulbs.
8. Turn on the circuit breaker and the light switch.
