How to Teach Sunday School to Young Children
Teaching children to walk in God's footsteps is priceless. This is a time when their minds absorb everything just like a sponge. At this stage, make religious learning an engaging and memorable experience through the use of visual aids, dramatic exercises, music and crafts.

1
Open up the Bible lesson with prayer. After the prayer, introduce a narrator for the Bible lesson, such as a puppet or a stuffed animal. Younger kids are more likely to remember a story if it is guided by someone or something that they can relate to and enjoy.
-
2
Act out the story that you are telling. Do this with hand motions, using voices and dressing up as much as you. Kids love funny voices and strange faces. This is one of the easiest ways to keep them interested and make them laugh.

-
3
Sing a song that relates to the Bible story. Involve the kids in the songs by having them use hand gestures and body movements. This will keep their attention as well as help expend any extra energy they might have.
-
4
Plan a fun activity after the lesson. Coloring, drawing and other similar activities capture their attention. Kids love arts and crafts at this age, and there is no better way to enhance understanding and recall of a story. Unless you have a helper, keep this activity simple and easy.
-
5
Close your Sunday school lesson with a final thought and a prayer. Prayer teaches kids to have a relationship with God no matter what their age. You can ask one of the kids lead the prayer.

Tips & Warnings
Keep the children involved throughout the lesson so they don't lose interest.
Use low-sugar or healthy snacks.
Always try to have enough help. Unless there are just two or three kids, there should be a minimum of two adults in the room. One can be concentrating on the group lesson while the other one is working individually with children having trouble.
Never leave a child unsupervised at this age.
