Hang gliding is an exhilarating sport where you hang from a non-motorized glider and fly through the air. The hang glider wing is constructed of rip-stop nylon or mylar over an aluminum frame. The pilot controls the glider by shifting his body weight. If you have never gone hang gliding before, you can do a tandem flight with an instructor. If you're looking for an extreme experience, try hang gliding on your next vacation!

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Do an Internet search for hang gliding schools in the area where you are planning to take a vacation. Check the All About Hang Gliding Web site (see Resources below) for a list of recommended schools.

  2. Step 2

Choose a hang gliding school based on your research. If possible, visit an online hang gliding forum (see Resources below) and get a recommendation.

  3. Step 3

Decide what type of lesson to get. You can choose anything from a 30-minute flight to an advanced lesson that can last up to 3 hours. The prices vary depending on the length of flight you choose.

  4. Step 4

Make reservations well in advance. Be sure to ask about clothing and shoe requirements. Usually, a helmet and goggles will be provided for you.

  5. Step 5

Arrive on time. Beginners typically go early in the morning when the winds are the calmest.

  6. Step 6

If possible, arrange to have your photo taken while you're hang gliding. You'll want to capture the experience for years to come.

  7. Step 7

    Enjoy your experience!
