VCRs have been an electronic staple across the world since the late 20th century. To tape your favorite TV shows to enjoy later, you have to connect your VCR to work with your cable box, which can be done with only two cables.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • TV
  • VCR three coaxial cables
  • Cable box

Step1
Connect your cable from the wall to the plug labeled "Cable" in on your cable box. These outputs and inputs should be clearly identified.
Step2
Attach a cable from the "Cable Out" plug on the cable box to the "Cable In" plug on your VCR. Take your time and make sure to get everything hooked up correctly. Often times there are a good number of jacks and connections, so examine them closely.
Step3
Run a cable from the "Cable Out" plug on your VCR to the "Cable Input" plug of your TV.
Step4
Turn the power on for both the TV and the VCR.
Step5
Make sure everything is working properly together by running a test. You can try to record whatever is on the TV at the time for just a few seconds. After you have recorded a sample, play it back using the VCR. If it works then you are set! If it fails to record anything, go over the steps again to ensure you have properly connected all the cables.

Tips & Warnings

  • Follow the steps above carefully. If you connect the cables any other way, the VCR and possibly the cable box will not work.
