There's nothing more embarassing than being a Christian and not being able to quote a Bible verse. If you have a little time and a little effort, you won't have to face this embarassment again.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • A Bible (preferrably several translations)
  • A highlighter
  • A good writing pen

Step1
Read the Bible. The more times you read a book or chapter, the better you will remember it. Highlight verses that are important to you so that you can come back to them over and over again.
Step2
Place verses throughout your house. (Bathroom; kitchen; bedroom; office; lounge area; outside) Use loose scraps of paper taped to a wall; picture frames; bulletin boards; white boards; ect. A nice idea is to have a "scripture wall" covered with verses that can easily be traded out for new ones.
Step3
Get creative! Write the verse on your skin with a pen; make "business cards" with verses to give out to people; take a special marker and write it on your car window; make a bumper sticker; t-shirts; stepping stones; or make it into a song.
Step4
Consider buying a devotional book, either that gives a verse a day or has "categories" of verses such as a "Book of Promises" or "What the Bible Says About..."
Step5
Talk about the Bible, in church settings and in everyday life. If a friend needs encouragement or a word of wisdom, have a useful verse in your memory bank that can fuel a discussion about an important topic.
Step6
Take active steps to learning a verse, by writing it out repeatedly, trying to recall it from memory, or knowing it in several translations. If it helps, look up commentary on the verse.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have fun with memory verses! Use a technique that you're excited about.
  • Choose a few favorite verses to carry with you to the grave (or heaven, as the case may be.) However, be sure to learn some new ones and not let yourself get in a rut.
  • Never use the Bible to badger others into accepting your belief system. First Peter 3:15-16 says: "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you for the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience."
