If you are not a runner, but would like to complete a 10K, you must enlist a running partner. Here is how you can make sure you finish the run.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Good running shoes
  • A running partner
  • A good running route
  • Some determination
  1. Step 1

Go shopping and buy good running shoes. Also buy some new running clothes; it will make you feel more motivated to use them!

  2. Step 2

Enlist a friend to start running with you a few months before the event. Three months ahead is a good time to start.

  3. Step 3

Find training plans online. Here is a good example: http://www.jeffgalloway.com/training/5k.html

  4. Step 4

Find a good running route. I found it much nicer to be running outside rather than on the treadmill.

  5. Step 5

Start running and work your way up to 3-4 times a week. Gradually, you'll feel stronger and will be able to go further. 2 miles is a good start and work up to 5 eventually. You don't actually have to go the entire 6.2 miles before race day. The energy and excitement of being with all the other runners will keep you going.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you have someone checking in on your running progress. It keeps you accountable.
  • Try and make running fun by listening to your iPod and having fun with your running buddy.
  • Be sure to stretch before and after your run.
  • Be careful if your running route is on a road.

on 6/27/2009 Definately agree with ManInTheShadow. Why would a person who hates to run want to bother? Sort of insulting to runners.

on 10/22/2008 Sorry, but I think that if you don't like to run, you will never be able to run 10K. This distance is already quite some feat, so there has to be something about running that you stick to the needed training. Just my 2 cents of knowledge ...
