Feeding birds in the wintertime in Maine is important especially if you feed them all year long. This easy to make recipe is a great winter feed for all year long feathered residents.

Did you find the hummer nectar recipe? If not, all you do is mix 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. Bring the water just to the boiling point, dissolve sugar and let cool. Some say to add red food coloring, some say don't. As long as your feeder has red, it's probably not necessary. Can be stored in the fridge for a couple weeks.

Not an avid go out in the wild and search for them , but love to watch them by the window as they flit around. Kinda relaxing like watching fish in an aquarium.

Have not found a recipe for Hummingbird nectar as of yet , but, would love to have one as you know to buy it is awful expensive. Going to ehow it now and see if there is a recipe for it here already.

on 5/14/2007 As far as being safe for humans to eat-- all ingredients are human friendly. Although not sure how the lard and bird seed would taste.
