Step 1

Apply ice or heat pack on the affected area on your neck. You will get relief from pain.
Step 2

Take painkillers such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Consult the doctor before taking medication.
Step 3

Apply pain-relieving ointment on the affected area. Ask your doctor to prescribe a suitable ointment for you.
Step 4

Go for traction. Opt for neck exercises and physiotherapy treatment. Contact a well-qualified physiotherapist for it.
Step 5

Take injection in case of extreme pain and discomfort. Epidural steroid or cortisone injections prove effective on this problem.
Step 6

Go to a chiropractor, accupressurist, massage therapist or neurologist for treatment. These treatments are also beneficial to get relief from neck pain.

Tips & Warnings

Consume more of fruits, vegetables and fibrous food items. Skip oily, fried and junk foods. Limit your intake of alcoholic drinks and smoking.
You can go for soft cervical collar until the pain subsides.
Avoid activities that exert pressure on your neck area. Maintain proper posture while sitting, driving, sleeping and walking.
Never put ice directly on your neck. Put it in ice bag and then place on the affected area.
Don’t lift heavy objects.
