The Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 (also known as the Controlled Substances Act) groups different types of drugs into schedules. There are currently 5 drug schedules that the United States uses in classifying drugs. The Controlled Substances Act was created to maintain greater accountability in the drug manufacturing and shipping process and to make sure the appropriate people maintain control over the drugs in the schedules. If you are arrested for a drug offense, the schedule into which the drugs involved fall will make a difference in the penalty you receive if you are convicted. Understand What Drugs Fall Into Schedule 3

1. Steroids, diet drugs and some narcotics fall into Schedule 3. These drugs have the potential to seriously alter your body and mental state. 3. Visit the Web site of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) (see Resources below) and look at the page on Drug Scheduling. You will see a listing of what drugs fall into all 5 schedules in alphabetical order within a schedule by the chemical name of the drug. Common names of the drugs are sometimes listed, and whether or not the substance is a precursor to another drug is also sometimes noted.

• You have the right to an attorney. If you are arrested for a Schedule 3 drug offense, you are entitled to legal representation. The court will appoint an attorney to represent you if you cannot afford to hire one on your own.
