  1. Step 1

    Read the American Cancer Society's comprehensive page on hair loss at their Web site (see Resources below). This page describes why hair loss occurs and gives a long list of options to help cope.

  2. Step 2

    Visit the Chemocare Web site (see Resources below), presented by the Scott Hamilton CARES Initiative. Hamilton was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1997. This Web site offers useful information on hair loss, including the tip that many insurance companies will pay for a wig if a doctor writes a prescription for a cranial prosthesis.

  3. Step 3

    Learn about treatments that have occasionally been effective in combating hair loss caused by chemotherapy at the Mayo Clinic's Web site (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

    Find out how chemotherapy patients care for their scalp. The National Cancer Institute offers an article titled "Chemotherapy and You" (see Resources below) that is informative and helpful.
