Avoid if possible
*Be aware of your surroundings.
*Watch for signs of bears in the area
*don't travel alone
*make plenty of noise
*avoid traveling at sunset or at night
*Do not cook near the camp site
Step2
Asssuming that you are being attacked.
Stand your ground. Fight back, you won't win but maybe you can cause it to back down.
Step3
If all else fails, play dead. Try not to struggle, the bear may bat you around until it is satisfied you are dead.
Some suggestions for playing dead
*clasp your hands behind your neck
*keep legs tightly together
*curl up and use your knees to protect your head
Tips & Warnings
Drop any food you have, or had it stored in such as a backpack
Be strong, when the bear is satisfied that you are dead, it may toss debris over the body, and/or urinate on it
Be cautious while leaving the scene, you will likely be too injured afterwords to make a getaway
Do not run
Do not climb a tree (though grizzlies do not climb normally, they will if tempted, they also have a greater reach)
