If you have ever suffered from excessively dry skin on your hands you know how uncomfortable and sometimes painful it can be - especially when they become cracked and sore. This article will help you rehydrate your hands.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • clean bowl
  • clean, warm water
  • soft towel
  • good quality hand cream
  1. Step 1

Pour warm, clean water into a clean bowl large enough to put both your hands in.

  2. Step 2

Place your hands in the warm water and stay there for 5 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Remove hands from water and pat dry with a soft towel. Do not rub and do not try to remove all moisture from your hands, you just need to dry them enough so they are not dripping.

  4. Step 4

Gently put on a high quality hand cream - apply slowly and deliberately, taking care to cover knuckles and between fingers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a hand cream that is free from harsh chemicals.
  • Look for a hand cream that does not contain water as its main ingredient. It will go much further and is worth the extra you might pay.
  • Use a high quality liquid soap - again one that does not contain harsh chemicals, and again, one that does not have water as its main ingredient.
  • If you are not sure which products do not contain chemicals, try searching for vegan and organic products made by manufacturers who care for the environment.
  • Avoid using toiletries that contain artificial perfume.
  • Limit your use of chemical cleaning products in your home. Disposable wipes seem to have a particularly bad effect on my hands.

on 5/8/2007 Hey RoseyP! Great How To article. My dad always has dry cracked hands because he's always using his hands either for work or for his garden. This tip fixed it after a week. Thanks!

on 5/8/2007 I have palms that don't sweat very much. Some people would consider that a good thing, but it really amounts to my hands feeling like paper if I skip the lotion. Do you recommendations for a good one?
