You want to learn the basics of tap dance? Here's a quick how-to of an easy step called the "kick-ball-change"

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tap shoes
  1. Step 1

You should have your tap shoes on. Stand up straight, facing a mirror (if you have one) so you can watch yourself. Stand with both feet parallel to each other, shoulder-width apart.

  2. Step 2

Take your right foot and "kick" it in front of you - make sure to keep your balance! The first time you try this you may have to hold you leg out there for a half-second. Now bring your right foot straight back, tapping the floor as your foot passes its' original placement.

  3. Step 3

With your right foot behind you, lift and drop your left heel. This is called the "ball" move in tap dance.

  4. Step 4

Bring your right foot back to it's original position with a stomp.

  5. Step 5

Repeat steps one through four, reversing your feet. Do over and over until you have a nice rhythm.

  6. Step 6

    Congratulations, you're tap dancing!

Tips & Warnings
  • You're going to look funny when you first start; don't let that bother you!
  • Tap dancing can be rough on your joints if you're not careful.
