Step 1
Play the single-player campaign and look for the red Gear symbol spray-painted onto walls. If you see the red skull cog, a COG tag is close. The COG tags themselves are the Gears of War equivalent of dog tags. Finding them is a way of paying respect to fallen soldiers.
-
Step 2
Look for a small pair of blue cogs with a chain. They’re a bit hard to see on some levels, but they do stand out, despite all the blue trash on the ground.
-
Step 3
Play with a friend. You can find COG tags in a co-op game as well, and two pairs of eyes are better than one. If both of you have the COG tag, it won't appear. If one of you has it, both of you will be able to see it, but only the player who doesn’t have it will be able to pick it up. If neither of you has it, you’ll both be able to see and if one of you grabs it, you’ll both get credit for it.
-
Step 4
Find all 30 COG tags. You can do this on any difficulty. The only catch is that each one has a specific place; if you find them out of order, you have to play the game again and search all the locations for the ones you missed. However, you don’t need to keep finding them again. If you find COG tag #30, you’ll always have that tag unless you start a new profile.
-
Step 5
Try for them all! You get a 10-point Achievement for grabbing 10 COG tags, a 20-point Achievement for finding 20, and a 30-point Achievement for finding all of them.
