Pneumonia is a respiratory disease caused by various bacteria, fungi and viruses. A pneumonia patient will complain of inflammation in the lungs. Here are the guidelines to recognize the symptoms of pneumonia.

Note that there are several types of pneumonia such as bacterial pneumonia, mycoplasma pneumonia, atypical pneumonia and aspiration pneumonia. The common symptoms are coughing, shivering, fits, fever and chest pain.
Step2
Observe whether the mucus of the cough of the person is yellowish, bloodstained or rust-colored. This is a visible symptom of pneumonia.
Step3
See whether the person complains of breathing problems and sharp chest pain.
Step4
Check whether the person’s lips and nails are turning blue due to breathlessness.
Step5
Notice if the person looks tired and weak or complains of pain in joints.
Step6
Older people with pneumonia may have a dry cough lasting longer.
Step7
Check whether the person is losing appetite or experiencing nausea.

Tips & Warnings

  • Old people suffering from this disease may show incoherence in thinking or speech.
  • Pneumonia patients should not cough or sneeze without covering their nose and mouth, as it may infect others.
  • Pneumonia patients should avoid smoking.
