You don't have to purchase a board game to play Bible Charades. This article explains how to play your own free Bible Charades Game.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Writing Instruments
  • Paper or index cards
  • Clock or stop watch
  • Bowl or container
  1. Step 1

Designate a facilitator before the game starts. This person does not play. Their job is to be timekeeper, track scores, and resolve disagreements.

  2. Step 2

Divide the group into two teams of at least three people each. Decide on a time limit - between 3 and 5 minutes - for each round.

  3. Step 3

Prior to starting the game, groups should decide on specific hand signals and pantomimes that will represent books, movies, songs, etc.
For example, cupping the hands together in a praying position and then spreading them open, flat with palms up, would be the pantomime for the word "book".

  4. Step 4

Give each team several slips of paper, a writing instrument, and a bowl. On the individual slips of paper, allow each team to write biblical phrases, book titles, songs, etc.

  5. Step 5

Instruct the groups to fold the slips of paper and drop them into their bowl or container. The teams should then switch bowls before starting the game.

  6. Step 6

One person from a team is chosen to go first. Without speaking, that person must act out for his/her team what is written on the paper by giving signals and making gestures.

  7. Step 7

The other team members must guess what's written on the slip of paper. The facilitator keeps track and notes the number of guesses the team used before figuring out the correct answer. The team member that guesses correctly first goes next.

  8. Step 8

If no-one on the team guesses before the time runs out the player must stop and it is the next teams turn, following the same process.

  9. Step 9

The team that guesses correctly using the least amount of clues, wins. For example, say team 1 guesses their phrase correctly with only one clue, and team 2 guesses their phrase correctly after 2 clues. Well, team 1 would be the winner.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use bible themes that are appropriate for your groups age. You want it to be challenging but not so difficult that the group isn't having fun.
  • Examples of bible events to pantomime are, "the birth of Jesus", "parting the Red Sea", and "Joshua and the Battle of Jericho."
