Prevention is better than cure for many ailments related to aging. You can take preventive steps that can help keep age spots away. Age spots or liver spots show up due to overexposure to sun or malfunctioning of the liver. Take extra care to prevent the age spots by following these guidelines.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Use sunscreen lotion of minimum SPF 15 (sun protection factor) whenever you step out in sun. Apply the lotion on body parts that are exposed to sun such as your neck, hands and face.
Step2
If possible, avoid going out especially in the afternoons when sun rays can most damage your skin. Prefer tight clothing or full-sleeves shirt and hat.
Step3
Your diet plays a major role in the prevention of age spots. Eat food items containing green leafy vegetables, carrots, yams, nuts and fish that are rich in calcium, iron and carotene.
Step4
Consume alcohol in moderation. Make sure your liver is functioning properly. As liver malfunction increases, the chances for visible age spots also go up. Consult your doctor for a periodic liver check-up.
Step5
Use natural and home remedies including face packs and exofoliators that facilitate prevention of age spots. For example, try fresh limejuice, face scrubs, and mineral clay face packs.
Step6
Perform exercises, especially yoga, that improve the blood circulation in the body to help prevent age spots.

Tips & Warnings

  • Start using sunscreen lotions and developing good eating habits at a young age.
  • Before using any home remedies for age spots, do a patch test to see its effect on your skin.
  • Avoid smoking and oil-rich food items such as donuts, french fries and hamburgers.
