How to Plan a Diving Trip to Cancun, Mexico

Cancun, Mexico, has the second largest barrier reef in the world. Whether you're an experienced diver or a novice, this is an excellent place to dive. Plan a fantastic journey into this beautiful underwater world.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Pack your PADI or other certification card if you are a certified diver. You will need to show your card before you dive.
Step2
Pack your own gear if you own it. Bring a mask, booties, a timer, fins and knives.
Step3
Get certified if you're not already. Otherwise, you can choose a diving experience where you don't need to be certified. Many shops in Cancun will let you dive once you learn basic diving skills. However, you won't see nearly as much on these dives, so it's best to get certified.
Step4
Do not plan diving the day after you arrive or the day before you leave. You need to adjust to your surroundings before you dive. Sudden changes in altitude and depth can be very dangerous.
Step5
Ask other divers which shops they've used and get recommendations. There are so many shops to choose from and it helps to find out which ones offer the best services and prices.
Step6
Be adventurous. Go on a dive at night or choose a cavern dive, where you'll get to see what's living in an underwater cave.
