How to Travel to Mazatlan, Mexico

1. Get your passport well in advance of your trip. Apply for a passport at your local post office.

2. Book a hotel along the Golden Zone of Mazatlan. This is the strip of beach where you'll find most of the hotels, bars and restaurants.

3. Visit the Acuario Mazatlan, where you'll see over 200 species of fish, including sharks, eels and sea horses.

4. Catch a show at the Angela Peralta Theatre in Plazado Machado Square. It has been renovated over the years and is a beautiful place to take in an evening of entertainment.

5. Experience a new watersport such as parasailing or jet skiing. Ask the concierge at your hotel about setting up your adventure.

6. Have dinner and a margarita at Señor Frogs. It's a fun place for dining, dancing and people watching.

7. Shop for local wares including baskets, pottery, jewelry, leather goods, blankets, wood carving and metalwork.

8. Splash the day away at Mazagua Water Park, a four-acre attraction that has everything from wading pools to a 100-foot long water slide.
