Mediterranean gardens incorporate dramatic architectural lines and often include a water feature such as a wall fountain.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Measure the entire area where you plan to plant your garden.
Step2
Sketch your design. Be sure to include a focal point at the center of the garden. It could a topiary tree, a statue or a fountain.
Step3
Decide which plants to use. They should include palms, ferns and flowering plants in reds, white and pink. Choose a variety of colors and textures. Use shrubs to separate the areas of the garden.
Step4
Choose places for container gardens, which will add to the formal elegance of the garden. Use containers on either side of your focal point or next to the entrance to your home.
Step5
Choose a type of walkway. It can be flagstone, brick or gravel. The walkway should have formal, clean edges.
Step6
Prepare your soil and get ready to plant. As you remove the plants from their containers, gently scratch, tear or pull on the roots to stimulate them.
Step7
Water your plants daily at first and also when the flowering plants are blooming. As flowers die off, pinch them to encourage further blooms.
