Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Call a local travel agent to get recent information on hotels and security warnings for Mexico. No one wants to book a hotel in an area that has been deem crime ridden.
Step2
Seek out neighbors, family and friends that have recently visited Playa del Carmen, for best hotel stays. Take into consideration your vacation activities and theirs when listening to their reasons for liking or disliking their hotel.
Step3
Edit down your list of hotels by amenities, location, and priority. Stay on the beach where you can slip out your door and sit on the sand. All-inclusive hotels are for those who would like to eat, drink and be very merry all the time. There are even adult only hotels where not one toddler will be screaming at sunrise that they are hungry.
Step4
Determine what activities interest the group that is traveling and where they are located. Find hotels in the center of that area. No one wants to travel 45 minutes every morning from the southern end of the city to reach the tours that leave from downtown.
Step5
Check hotel Web sites to make sure that the hotel is operational. Weather off the coast can bring severe hurricanes that may close down hotels and resorts for short periods.
Step6
Ask hotels if they have shuttles to and from the airport and other favorite attractions. Don't get stuck at the airport in a line for taxis.
Step7
Make sure the hotel of your choice has air conditioning in the rooms and lobby. Most hotels do, but if visiting Playa del Carmen in the summer, air in the hotel is a must.
