How to Remove Ice from a Car

During the winter time the weather can be less than kind to your car. The ice mounts on the car and does not want to come off easily. The following will help you minimize your time removing ice from your car's windows and locks.

Things You'll Need:

• windshield washer fluid
• de-icer
• very warm water
• windshield scraper
• pocket lock de-icer

1. Start the vehicle and turn the heat on high with all of the defrosters on.

2. Leave the vehicle running 10 to 15 minutes if possible and return to a warm environment.

3. Buy windshield de-icer and pocket lock de-icer prior to the winter months. Keep some in your garage and some in your trunk.

4. Apply de-icer if available.

5. Use a mini pocket sized lock de-icer when the locks are frozen.

6. Pour a pan of very warm water onto the locks if a lock de-icer is not available.

7. Use a windshield scraper to chip and chisel the ice off the windows. This is easiest when the car is left running and you are able to see melted water underneath the ice. This usually forms near the bottom of the windshield first.

8. Once the wipers are somewhat free, lift them up and snap them onto the windshield to remove the ice.

9. Use the windshield washer fluid once your wipers are working.

Tips & Warnings

• Remove all ice from the vehicle before driving.
• Never leave a car running in an enclosed area.
• Never pour boiling water onto a windshield. It may crack it.
• Do not turn on the wipers prior to them being defused from the frozen windshield.
