How to Remove Gum from Wood Floors

Somehow gum is on your wood floors. Wood is very sensitive and if removed incorrectly, may have devastating effects. Do not worry, it is not as bad as you may think. The following will help you in your efforts to removing the gum quickly and with no effects to the wood.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • scraper or butter knife
  • ice pack
  • wood cleaner

Step1
Remove the majority of the gum with your fingers or by lightly scraping it away.
Step2
Place an icepack on the gummed area. Do not place ice that is not inside a bag.
Step3
Allow the ice to freeze the gum.
Step4
Remove the frozen gum by slightly scraping it. It should pop off.
Step5
Place wood cleaner on the gum if the above does not work.
Step6
Allow the cleaner time to soak into the gum. The gum should be easily removed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep children away from the cleaning solution.
  • Do not use vinegar in your efforts to remove the gum.
  • NEVER use ammonia or bleach to clean wood floors.
