Hunting is a year round event in Arizona. Deer, quail, javalina, elk and dove are just a few of the animals that are available to be hunted. Licenses are necessary for any hunting done in the state. Each animal has its own season to be hunted as well as regulations to what types and how many of each genus can be killed.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Determine if you need to get a resident or nonresident hunting license. To be a resident you must have lived in Arizona for at least six months before applying for a license.
Step2
Select the type of game that you would like to hunt. Cross check with the seasons to see if they are able to be hunted.
Step3
Call the Arizona Game and Fish Department to purchase a license over the phone. Purchasing a license from a sporting goods store is also another valid way to get a hunting license.
Step4
Go to the state run wildlife license website to purchase a license online. Online purchases allow you to get a printed temporary license if needed.
Step5
Choose your own number for the Department ID that is needed to apply. It should be a number that is easily remembered for future use. Hunters are able to use their own Social Security numbers if they choose.
Step6
Apply for a hunt permit-tag. These are available at the same places that you applied for your license. Hunters put in one permit-tag application for each genus of wildlife they wish to hunt for and at what time of year. Applicants must call for verification of permits, as the Arizona Game and Fish Department will not contact you.

Tips & Warnings

  • Only when you have both the permit and the license are you legal to hunt.
