Step1
Pack lots of diapers. That is one item that cannot be improvised if it is forgotten.
Step2
Do not forget the wipes. These are useful for changing, cleaning the baby and anything that he may touch while in the plane.
Step3
Bring a changing pad or receiving blanket.
Step4
Pack any creams or ointments that you may need in your checked luggage that goes under the plane. Security will not allow these items onto a plane in a carry-on bag.
Step5
Bring an extra set of clothes and pair of socks for the baby. You may want to throw a shirt in the bag for yourself just in case the baby spits up on you or you encounter a diaper-changing mishap.
Step6
Place a burp cloth in an area of the bag that is easy to grab.
Step7
Place a few plastic bags in the diaper bag for dirty diapers, trash or soiled items.
Step8
Pack bottles and formula if necessary. If those are no longer needed the baby will need his baby cup. Security fluctuates on this issue. Call the airport prior to departure and ask about the liquid policy.
Step9
Include any of the baby meals. Again, security is very tough on these items. Call the airport to find out their regulations at your time of travel.
Step10
Do not forget snacks. Babies love snacks and they also work as a form of entertainment.
Step11
Bring any feeding spoons that the baby may need with his meals. Forks and knives will not get past security so do not pack them.
Step12
Bring bibs for mealtime.
Step13
Pack an ice bag with food and drinks inside an insulated lunch bag. This may be taken by security but once through security, stop at a store and get some ice that you may need while on the plane.
Step14
Don't forget any medications that the pediatrician has prescribed. Ask the doctor to write a note stating that this is necessary. This is especially important for children in need of needle medications.
Step15
Pack small toys that will occupy the baby.
Step16
Include extra pacifiers. They are so small and are lost or dirtied very easily.
Step17
Pack a jacket and blanket not matter how hot it is outside. The plane may be colder than expected.
Step18
Carry the pediatrician's number in the bag at all times.
