How to Take Zocor

Zocor Oral is a drug used for lowering blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels to supplement dietary changes, exercise, and weight loss procedures to prevent the possibility of future heart attacks. It is generally prescribed for children over the age of ten as well as for adults. Women, however, must have experienced at least a one-year menstrual cycle before they can be allowed to take Zocor Oral. Additionally, the following should be observed:

    Consult a doctor before using any medical drug treatment like Zocor Oral. You should check your medical records for possible allergies to substances like simvastatin, a primary Zocor Oral ingredient.

  2. Step 2

    Follow medical instructions carefully, especially with regards to dosage use. The prescription may vary, but usually, one tablet is recommended to be taken at night which may be with meals or alone.

  3. Step 3

    Seek medical opinion if you need to take Zocor along with other drugs/supplements. If the doctor allows it, remember to take Zocor either an hour prior to taking the supplementary drug or two hours after it.

  4. Step 4

    Stay away from grapefruit products and alcoholic beverages while under Zocor Oral drug treatment. Taking such products along with Zocor is not recommended as it may trigger adverse reactions.

  5. Step 5

    Continue to use of Zocor Oral even after you have gotten better. The medication takes full effect in about four weeks and a sudden withdrawal after that time period may have adverse consequences.

  • Zocor Oral should be taken with a full glass of water.
  • Have your blood checked regularly while taking Zocor Oral to monitor your liver function.
  • Maintain a healthy, low-cholesterol, low-fat diet while taking Zocor Oral.
  • Store Zocor Oral at room temperature. Avoid exposing Zocor Oral to extreme heat and moisture.
  • If you miss a dose of Zocor Oral you should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for the next dose you should skip the dose and continue taking Zocor Oral as prescribed.
  • Do not take Zocor oral if you are currently taking astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, midazolam, or lovostatin.
  • Zocor has been known to bring on congestive heart failure (CHF). If you have a history of heart conditions you should not take Zocor oral.
  • Do not take Zocor Oral if you are pregnant, may become pregnant or are breastfeeding.
  • Do not consume grapefruit products while taking Zocor Oral without first consulting with your doctor.
  • If you have an allergic reaction while taking Zocor Oral you should stop taking it immediately and go to the emergency room. Signs of an allergic reaction include hives, breathing trouble and swelling in the face, lips, tongue and throat.
  • Side effects from using Zocor Oral may include gas, bloating, nausea, upset stomach, heartburn, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, cough, headache and insomnia.
  • Certain medicines can have an adverse effect when mixed with Zocor Oral. Inform your doctor if you are currently taking or have recently taken cyclosporine, gemfibrozil, niacin, erythromycin, clarithromycin, cholestyramine, colestipol, itraconazole, fluconazole, ketoconazole, nefazodone, digoxin, warfarin, amprenavir, indinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, lopinovir-ritonavir, saquinavir, amiodarone or verapamil.
