You're thinking of selling your website. Unfortunately, you don't have any idea how much your website is worth. Putting a price on a website when you put it up for sale is very similar to the appraisal of actual real estate. Here are some very simple steps I would take if I were trying to put a value on my website for resale.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • internet access
  • computer
  1. Step 1

Consider your website's rank on each search engine. If your website consistently ranks high on the different search engines it will be worth more to potential buyers. Check with the different search engines such as Google and Yahoo to find out how your website ranks.

  2. Step 2

Ask yourself a series of questions. What is your domain name worth? How much time and energy did you put into building your website? How easily can your website be linked from other websites? How much money have you invested into building your website? Asking yourself these questions will help give you an idea of what your website is worth.

  3. Step 3

Have your website appraised by an appraisal website such as Web Critiques or Accurate Domains. Using an appraisal service will give you an outside opinion of what you may be able to sell your website for. Remember, most appraisal services will charge a fee for their services.

  4. Step 4

See what other people are selling their websites for. Find websites for sale that are similar to yours in content and size. See what prices other websites are being sold at and which prices keep the websites sitting on the market.

  5. Step 5

Compare your notes and set a price. Take all the information you've gathered and decide what you want to sell your website for. Make sure the price is reasonable without going too low.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you give a lot of consideration to the appraisal site's estimate. This is your best tool for figuring out your price.
  • Be open to negotiating. Listen to all offers and take the offer that is closest to what you are looking to sell your website for.
  • Don't overprice your website. Be realistic when you set the price. Don't let nostalgia guide your decision.
  • Don't take the first low offer that comes your way. Hold out for an offer that is close to what you are looking for.
