You're busy working on your yard when the string on the weed eater either comes unraveled or is in the need of new string. The following will help you re-string the weed eater quickly and help eliminate future unraveling of the string.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Weed eater
  • Oil-filter wrench if necessary
  • Weed eater cord

    Preparation Instructions

  1. Step 1

Press the lock and rotate the spool counter-clockwise.

  2. Step 2

Remove the locking ring if your weed eater has one.

  3. Step 3

Take off the automatic feed button.

  4. Step 4

    Wipe away any debris.

  5. Step 5

Push down on the spool to release the locking tabs.

  6. Step 6

Remove the spool from the chamber.

  7. Restringing the Weed Eater

  8. Step 1

Feed the line into the lower deck, traveling the line in an upside down J fashion (almost like sewing on a button but do not tie off the line). This secures the internal end of the line.

  9. Step 2

Wrap the line following the directed arrows. Do this until it wraps to the depth of the chamber.

  10. Step 3

Secure each of the lines into its own upper and lower deck grove settings.

  11. Step 4

Install the spool back into its chamber.

  12. Step 5

Pass the lines into the left and right holes and snap the spool into place.

  13. Step 6

Once the spool is in its sleeve and fed into its left and right eye holes, pull both ends simultaneously.

  14. Step 7

Reinstall the locking ring if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wind the string slowly. You do not want the line to bind.
  • Remember to lock both ends into their upper and lower groves. If you do not secure this, it will unravel.
