With produce readily available on the grocery store shelf, we often take for granted the hard work it takes to produce quality fruit. Take a trip to a local orchard and let your children explore a working farm. Take a step back in time as you wander through the apple trees as you discover the orchard with your children.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wagon for children and apples
  • Camera
  • Play clothes
  1. Step 1

    Find an orchard near you.

  2. Step 2

Call the orchard to check on fruit availability and the current crops available.

  3. Step 3

Wander through the orchards and pick as you go. Many orchards are fine with you eating an apple or two as you go.

  4. Step 4

Play a game of hide and seek or tag amongst the trees. So long as you are not disturbing the crops, this is a great place to play games with your kids.

  5. Step 5

Plan on taking home some fresh fruit from the trees. If you don't wish to pick them yourself you can usually buy some pre-picked apples from the store.

  6. Step 6

Help support your local orchard by purchasing goods from their store. Many times you will find fresh fruit preserves, apple cider, apple pie and many other apple items available for purchase.

  7. Step 7

A trip to an orchard is not complete without apple cider and perhaps a warm pastry to go with it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear clothing that's okay to get dirty. As with any farm, your child is bound to come away with some dirt and mud.
  • Take plenty of pictures. This will make a great memory.
  • Check on the picking and eating as you go policy before you venture into the orchard.
