How to Visit the Lakes in Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park is one of the most scenic natural settings on the planet. There are stunning mountain views, picturesque waterfalls, clear blue lakes and wonderful geysers. Visiting the lakes can be a fun and memorable experience. These mountain lakes are some of the most clear and beautiful in North America.

Things You'll Need:

  • Map of Yellowstone National Park
  • Binoculars
  • Camera
  1. Step 1

    Plan your trip in advance. There are a lot of lakes in Yellowstone. Get a map and designate in what order you want to see them.

  2. Step 2

    Pack a good pair of hiking shoes! To see many of the lakes you have to hike down a trail. There are also many good opportunities to hike around all the lakes.

  3. Step 3

    Go to Yellowstone Lake. This is the biggest lake in the park and has a rich history.

  4. Step 4

    Pack your fishing gear. There are some wonderful fishing locations at most of Yellowstone's lakes.

  5. Step 5

    Take your binoculars. You will get to see small details up close and personal. You may even get to get a peek at the wildlife that made Yellowstone famous.

  6. Step 6

    Keep Yellowstone clean!. Do not throw trash on the ground and make sure to take anything with you that you brought. There are trash bins scattered throughout the park, so there is no reason not to use them.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be careful! Never get too close to any of the wildlife. Also, be careful around the water because it can be extremely cold.
  • Make sure to get a map of Yellowstone. You can get very detailed maps of each section of the park.
  • Yellowstone can be a packed place during the busy season. Tourists seem to be everywhere, but if you get away from the most popular places then you will not have to rub shoulders with thousands of other people.
