How to Ride the Chunnel from London to Paris

With the advent of Eurostar's new High Speed 1, clocking in at just over 208 mph, getting to Paris from London has never been easier. In just 2 hours and 15 minutes, one could start the day with a traditional English breakfast in London and have a mid-morning croissant at a cafe in Paris.

      Review the timetables and fares and purchase your tickets on the Eurostar's website or through the Rail Europe website (see Resources below).

      Relax in style in the Leisure Select carriage. The Leisure Select carriage will make your trip from London to Paris even more pleasant. In this cabin you will be treated to a three-course meal and beverage service brought to you in your large, comfortable seat. The Leisure Select class also includes power sockets at every seat and a selection of international newspapers and magazines.

      Prepare for that important meeting in the exclusive Business Premiere carriage. This carriage offers comfortable surroundings with large seats that include power sockets. Other perks with this class include at seat dining, fast track check-in and access to exclusive wireless enabled lounges in London and Paris.

      Save with a ticket in the Standard Class A carriage. This spacious air-conditioned carriage features access to the on-board buffet and bar.

    The Journey

      Arrive at St. Pancras International station located in Northern London.

      Look up at the large placards. These screens indicate which platform to use to reach the train. They are generally arranged by destination, departure time and seating class.

      Check-in at least 30 minutes before departure time. Proceed through the turnstiles (with your luggage) by inserting your ticket, magnetic strip down, into the slot and retrieving it when it pops out.

      Follow the signs towards the platform for your train and seating class.

      Hop on the train as soon as it stops at the platform and the doors open.

      Hand your ticket to the conductor when he or she passes through your carriage.

      Sit back and relax as the Eurostar speeds you through London and into Paris.

      Arrive at Gare du Nord in Paris. Walk straight off the end of the Eurostar platform onto the main concourse and out onto the streets of Paris.

Tips & Warnings

  • Book your tickets early. Eurostar fares increase as the more economic seats are sold.

  • Pack lightly as there is a 20 Euro charge for any oversized baggage.
