Tired of the headaches involved in travel preparation? Travelocity's online hotel booking feature takes the pain out of planning your trips. Reserve your room with Travelocity securely and easily and have your vacation live up to its potential.

From Quick Guide: Hotel Stays
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Credit card
  • Internet access
  • Travelers' personal data
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Gather information about your trip, including the destination, date of travel and the names and birthdates of the travelers.

  2. Step 2

Log on to Travelocity (see link below in Resources) using a secure browser and register with the website by creating a new account. Choose a login name and password that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess. Use your previous name and password if you are a returning customer.

  3. Step 3

Click on the "Hotels" tab on the website. Search for hotels using destination, travel dates, number of rooms and number of travelers and their ages. Accurately identifying a traveler as a minor or senior citizen may result in rate reductions or adjustments.

  4. Step 4

Sort your results by preference. By default, Travelocity sorts results by the website's "Picks." To sort by price, ratings, hotel name or city name, simply click on the heading of the column that contains the factor most important to you.

  5. Step 5

Compare your options. Note small or large differences between hotels and keep them in mind when narrowing down your choices. Click on the "Results on a Map" tab to help you visualize your hotel's proximity to locations of interest.

  6. Step 6

Select a hotel. Read about its features and amenities. Check features, photos and maps. If you are satisfied with the selected hotel, proceed to "Check Rates."

  7. Step 7

Enter your check in and check out dates again, as well as number of rooms and numbers of adults and children. Review "Good Buy" rates if your travel dates are flexible.

  8. Step 8

Choose a room type and rate that corresponds with your travel specifics.

  9. Step 9

Review your selection, including hotel location, check-in name and rates and policies.

  10. Step 10

Enter your credit card details and other billing information. Enter your payment information carefully, as any inaccuracies may cause your reservation to be canceled and your trip to be delayed.

  11. Step 11

Confirm your purchase. Afterwards, be sure to confirm with the credit card company and the hotel that your payment has been processed and your reservations are being held.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plan ahead. Booking hotel rooms in advance generally ensures availability and the lowest possible rates. Waiting until the last few weeks before your trip could result in a hefty rate increase.
  • If you are on a tight budget, call the hotel and ask about special rates offered during the month of your trip.
  • Take your destination's events into account when planning your trip. Be advised that attempting to book a hotel room during a popular annual event may be more difficult than at other times.
  • Have the general details of your trip planned before logging on to Travelocity.
  • Sometimes Travelocity may ask for sensitive information about its travelers. Provide social security and/or driver's license numbers as requested, but in a secure, updated Web browser.
  • Disable Autocomplete and password remembering involving any online financial transactions. Enabling these functions could give your computer's guest users access to sensitive information such as credit card and social security numbers.

on 6/5/2007 My mom always calls with computer questions. Last week she was having trouble making a flight reservation. So I'm sending this to her to help her out and keep my ear dry. I guess what's simple to one generation isn't necessarily to the next. Thanks for the guide.
