Tips & Warnings

  • Visiting the park can make a great day trip, but if you have time to spend the night, do so. There are a few different hotels of different budget levels near the park headquarters.

  • Be prepared for hiking in altitude. If you're not used to the higher climate, go slow and drink plenty of water. The trails have skill levels associated with them, so explore the ones appropriate to your fitness level.

  • If hiking alone, let someone know where you intend to go and how long you will be gone.

  • Trail conditions can worsen after heavy rains or earthquakes. It is imperative to check in at the visitor center first to make sure your intended trail is not closed or eroded.

  • The breathtaking beauty is created by the deep canyons, cliffs and gorges. There is not much for railing, so use common sense and stay on the trails.
