Step 1
Provide the pet sitter with the key, alarm information and show them where the shutoff points are for water, electricity and gas.
-
Step 2
Give the pet sitter the details of the trip, including your itinerary and contact numbers to reach you or a vet in case of an emergency. Have them keep this in their own home, not yours.
-
Step 3
Detail a list of all things the sitter needs to do and their frequency. The list should include the schedule for feeding, medication, walks and play time. Map out the individual days and what needs to be done each day.
-
Step 4
Be explicit about the number of visits that you expect each day.
-
Step 5
Leave out cleaning supplies for any accidents that might occur.
-
Step 6
Make sure to have plenty of food, litter and medical supplies available. If there are multiple pets, make sure foods and medicines are very clearly labeled.
-
Step 7
Define what you consider to be an emergency. Give examples of when you would expect to be contacted and give them the contact information for your vet, in case they have questions that might be answered without interrupting your trip.
-
Step 8
Provide a backup person for them to call if they cannot complete a job or need help.
