Coral Vine is a rapidly growing, climbing vine that can grow up to 30 or 40 feet. The small flowers have a color range from nearly white to pink to sometimes a deep coral with heart-shaped leaves. This vine usually blooms repeatedly from late spring to early fall. Bees, butterflies and birds like this plant. Caring for Coral Vine can be relatively easy if you follow these simple steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Individual containers
  • Garden soil
  • Trellis, fence or arbor
  • Pebbles
  • Garden trowel
  • Gardening gloves

Grow From a Seed

Step1
Buy a packet of Coral Vine seeds from a nursery.
Step2
Plant your seeds in individual cups filled with garden soil. Plant the seeds in late winter if you want to transplant to your garden in the spring. Make sure there are holes in the bottom of the cups for water to drain.
Step3
Water regularly and make sure they get plenty of sunlight.
Step4
Set the plants outdoors for a few hours everyday to acclimate them to the outdoors. Do this before you transplant them into your garden.
Step5
Transplant them to your yard when the vines reach 6 to 8 inches in length.

Plant Your Coral Vine

Step1
Purchase your Coral Vine from a local nursery if you did not grow one from a seed. Look for one that has healthy green leaves and is already blooming.
Step2
Decide where to put your vine. Full sun is best. Since the Coral Vine is a climbing vine, plant it up next to a fence, trellis or arbor.
Step3
Plant your Coral Vine by digging a hole 6 to 8 inches deep, depending on the size of your vine. Fill the hole with rich garden soil and be sure that the roots are completely covered.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plant multiple vines 4 to 6 feet apart.
  • Place a few pebbles at the bottom of the hole before adding the Coral Vine. This will help the water drain.
  • Try attaching your vine to a stake until it is big enough to attach to the fence, trellis or arbor.
