Cleaning a tile backsplash can be a very tedious and time-consuming chore. You must be careful to choose the correct cleaning method to clean the tile and grout, yet keep the grout from breaking down. But once completed, your backsplash will look almost like new, free of dirt, grime and most stains.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Mix equal parts of hot water and white vinegar in a large bucket.
Step2
Fill another bucket with water to rinse the backsplash.
Step3
Dip a rag into the water/vinegar solution and wring it out as much as possible.
Step4
Wipe the tile side to side and up and down to get between the grouting. Try not to saturate the grout.
Step5
Mix a little baking soda and water to make a paste to use on small difficult stains. Use a small brush and circle the paste into the stained area.
Step6
Rinse the backsplash with the clean water. Again, wring the rag out as much as possible. Use a rag or sponge to soak up any excess water.
Step7
Allow the tile and grout to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prevent pruned hands by wearing gloves.
  • Keep children away from the cleaning solution.
  • There are several products sold over the counter to clean tile backsplashes. Although they do work, they often will break down the components of the grout. Use sparingly.
  • Never use bleach on colored grout.
