Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Book about fish
  • Camera
  1. Step 1

Go to the library and read up about fish in your area. It helps to familiarize yourself with the types of fish you are most likely to catch.

  2. Step 2

Study the parts of a fish. Understand where the dorsal, pectoral and pelvic fins are. This will help when you're identifying fish.

  3. Step 3

Narrow the possibilities by determining if you are dealing with freshwater or saltwater fish.

  4. Step 4

Compare the fish's attributes to those in your books. If you're still not sure, take a photo of the fish and bring it to a local bait shop. The employees there are likely to know what you've caught.
