- Divorce decree, annulment paper or death certificate, if applicable
- Marriage license application
- Photo identification or certified copies of birth certificates
- Pen
- Cash

Step 1
Apply for the marriage license in person at any circuit court. Both bride and groom must be present. Residency in Virginia is not required.

Present proof of age and identity. A driver's license, state-issued birth certificate or passport are acceptable forms of identification for this purpose.

Complete the application. Applicants may also be asked to provide Social Security numbers, race, ethnicity, date and location of the wedding ceremony and father's and mother's full name and birthplace for both applicants.

Step 4
Pay the license fee and head to the altar. There is no waiting period, and the marriage license is valid anywhere in Virginia for 60 days from date of issuance.
