Obtaining a marriage license is an important step in making your marriage legal. Follow these guidelines on how to obtain a marriage license if you plan to wed in New Hampshire.

Things You'll Need:

  • Divorce decree, annulment paper or death certificate, if applicable
  • Marriage license application
  • Pen
  • Cash
  • Photo identification
  1. Step 1

    Apply for the marriage license in person. Both bride and groom must be present.

  2. Step 2

    Present proof of age and identity. A driver's license, state-issued birth certificate or passport are acceptable forms of identification for this purpose.

  3. Step 3

    Fill out the application. Be prepared to provide Social Security numbers, information about race and ancestry, father's and mother's full names and state of birth and state of birth for both applicants.

  4. Step 4

    Pay the license fee and head to the altar. The marriage license is valid for 90 days from issuance and is good for ceremonies performed anywhere in New Hampshire.

  5. Step 5

    If either applicant has been married previously, bring the certified document that ended his or her last marriage, such as a divorce decree, annulment paper or death certificate.
