An important step in making your marriage legal is obtaining a marriage license. Following are guidelines on how to obtain a marriage license if you plan to wed in Kansas.
Complete the marriage license application. Either person in the couple may do so.

Sign and return the application to the county courthouse. The application must be signed by both parties and witnessed by a notary public. Remember to bring photo identification.

Pay the license fee of $50 in cash only.

Return the original license to the court for recording after the marriage ceremony. The license is then forwarded to the Department of Vital Statistics in Topeka, Kansas, where it is kept on permanent file.

Obtain a certified copy of a marriage license by applying to the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Topeka, Kansas or to the Clerk of the District Court. Applications may be obtained in the Clerk of the District Court office.

Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and the application must be approved by the a judge.
There is a three-day waiting period after the application is made before you may pick up the license. The license will expire six months from the date of issuance.
Blood tests are not required.
