How to Get a Marriage License in Hawaii
An important step in making your marriage legal is obtaining a marriage license. Follow these guidelines to obtain a marriage license if you plan to wed in Hawaii.

- Photo identification or certified copies of birth certificates

Apply for the marriage license in person. Both bride and groom must be present. Marriage license agents in Honolulu can be located in the Health Department Building at 1250 Punchbowl Street. For information on marriage agents in the rural and suburban areas of Oahu, call (808) 586-4544. For information on marriage agents on the neighbor islands, call the local office of the Department of Health.

Present proof of age and identity. A driver's license, certified copy of a birth certificate or passport are acceptable forms of identification for this purpose.

Fill out the application. Applicants may also be asked to provide Social Security numbers, dates of birth for both parties, previous marriage information and names and birthplaces of applicants' parents.

Pay the license fee and head to the altar. There is no waiting period, and licenses are valid for 30 days from the date of issuance. Unused licenses should be returned for invalidation in the pre-addressed envelope provided at the time of application.

If either applicant has been married previously, bring the certified document that ended his or her last marriage, such as a divorce decree, annulment paper or death certificate.
