Most permanent markers create stains that are difficult to treat. If you clean the stain immediately after it was made, you may be able to remove the stain before it sets. Follow these simple steps to remove the permanent marker stain.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Nonabrasive scrubbing agent
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Dish detergent
  • Sponge
  • Cotton balls

Step1
As soon as possible, use a sponge and dish detergent to wipe up the majority of the stain.
Step2
If the stain persists, try blotting it with rubbing alcohol and cotton balls.
Step3
Scrub the stain with a nonabrasive scrubbing agent and a damp sponge.
Step4
Rinse the stain with another clean sponge.
Step5
Repeat Steps 3 and 4 if necessary until the stain is gone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Test the process in a small area if you are unsure about how the process will affect the material that has been stained.
  • Permanent markers are intended to make permanent markings. Not all methods will work on all surfaces.
  • Contact a local cleaning service if no method is working.
