How to Remove Melted Crayons From Fabrics

Heat and crayons do not mix. Once crayons melt, the resulting stain can be very difficult to remove. There is hope though. Follow these simple steps and you may be able to salvage your fabric after a melted crayon incident.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hot water
  • Paper towels
  • Bleach for colored clothes
  • Car part lubricant such as WD-40
  • Washing machine
  • Liquid dishwashing detergent
  • Laundry detergent
  1. Step 1

    Scrape off any excess melted crayon with the dull edge of a knife or your fingernail. Be careful not to create more of a mess.

  2. Step 2

    Place the stained fabric on paper towels.

  3. Step 3

    Spray the affected area of fabric with WD-40 or another car part lubricant.

  4. Step 4

    Turn the fabric over and spray the other side.

  5. Step 5

    Leave it on for 3 to 5 minutes.

  6. Step 6

    Apply liquid dishwashing detergent to the stain and work it in a circular motion with your fingers.

  7. Step 7

    Replace the paper towels as the stain is absorbed.

  8. Step 8

    Wash the stained fabric in hot water.

  9. Step 9

    Use laundry detergent and color safe bleach in the washing machine.

  10. Step 10

    Place the washing machine on the heavy soiled setting.

  11. Step 11

    Rinse the fabric with warm water.

  12. Step 12

    Repeat these steps if the stain has not come out.

Tips & Warnings
  • Test the process in an inconspicuous area with WD-40 before attempting it on a larger area to make sure the fabric won't be damaged.
