How to Remove Ink Spots From Carpets

Ink has a way of finding its way onto carpets, even those protected with stain repellent. Following these simple steps can help to remove the spot.

Things You'll Need:

  • Commercial stain remover
  • Stain repellent
  • Hair spray
  • Sponge
  1. Step 1

    As soon as possible, blot the excess ink with a wet sponge.

  2. Step 2

    Scrub the stain with commercial stain remover and a clean cloth.

  3. Step 3

    If the stain persists, spray hair spray on the ink spot. Leave the hair spray on the spot for 3 to 5 minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Scrub the ink stain with commercial stain remover once more.

  5. Step 5

    Repeat Steps 3 through 5 until the stain is gone.

  6. Step 6

    If needed, follow up by cleaning the entire carpet with a steam cleaner and carpet shampoo.

Tips & Warnings
  • Test the process on a small area of the carpet before applying it to the stain to see what the cleaning products or hair spray will do to the carpet.
