1. Research accommodation choices via the Internet as there are many condos, hotels, cabins and bed and breakfasts available. Camping is not allowed on Mackinac Island.

2. Pack according to the season in which you will be traveling. Most visitors to Mackinac Island come during the late spring to early autumn. Average monthly temperatures during this time range from 50 degrees f in May to 71 degrees f in July.

3. Travel to Mackinac Island by road. You will approach Mackinac Island either from St. Ignace on the Upper Peninsula or from Mackinac City on the Lower Peninsula.

4. Park your car by the ferryboat docks and take the ferry to Mackinac Island.

5. Rent bicycles on Mackinac Island for a nominal fee. It is 8.3 miles around the perimeter of the island.

Tips & Warnings

• Mackinac Island's tourist season opens around the first week in May and ends in October. In the winter it is very cold and not particularly appealing to tourists.
