Things You'll Need:
- Crate
- Water from home
- Dog food
- Favorite toy or blanket for dog
- Leash
- Informative dog tag
-
Step 1
Use a crate that is well-ventilated to keep your schipperke secure while in the car. If he is not crate trained, get him used to the idea for short periods of time at home.
-
Step 2
Pack your schipperke's favorite toy or blanket so that he feels more comfortable with an object that is familiar to him.
-
Step 3
Make a few practice runs of shorter duration with your dog so that he gets used to being in the car.
-
Step 4
Take water from home or bottled water for your dog. Just like humans, dogs can suffer from stomach upset by drinking unfamiliar water.
-
Step 5
Travel with food for your dog, but do not feed him in the car. Water will be sufficient to sustain him until you reach your destination.
-
Step 6
Make sure your schipperke has a tag on his collar with your contact information including your home address, cell phone number and his name.
-
Step 7
Walk and stretch your legs as well as your dogs on a regular basis. Always have your dog on a leash whenever he is outside of the car.
